NSW:Man shot in head in NSW Hunter

SYDNEY, Aug 12 AAP - A man has been shot in the head at Muswellbrook, in the NSW Hunter
Valley, following a violent brawl, police say.

The 37-year-old man managed to make his own way to Muswellbrook Hospital, northwest
of Newcastle, after a violent confrontation involving a number of males on Wollombi Road,
about 7.30pm (AEST) on Wednesday.

During the confrontation the man sustained a gunshot wound to his head.

He sought refuge at a nearby house, then made his way to Muswellbrook Hospital.

He was later airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Detectives from Hunter Valley Local Area Command are investigating the incident.
