NSW: Couple escape as car slams into house

SYDNEY, Dec 27 AAP - An elderly couple had a lucky escape from injury when a car smashed
into their house in Sydney's north overnight.

Police said they were in the lounge room of their house in Patanga Road, Frenchs Forest,
when the incident happened about 10.40pm (AEDT).

A 21-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Ford Falcon sedan which ran off the road,
careered across the lawn and crashed into the front door of the home.

The impact hurled bricks across the lounge room, narrowly missing the couple.

They were shocked but otherwise unhurt.

The driver was treated at Royal North Shore Hospital for cuts and a possible broken nose.

State Emergency Service volunteers carried out emergency repairs to the house overnight
and Northern Beaches police are investigating.

Meanwhile, a baby is in a serious condition in hospital after a single-vehicle crash
on the NSW far north coast.

A 29-year-old Tweed Heads woman was driving along Kyogle Road at Lillian Rock, near
Nimbin, when her Holden sedan left the road and smashed into a tree.

A 13-month-old girl suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to a Brisbane
hospital, where she has undergone surgery.

The other occupants of the car - a 24-year-old woman and two boys aged 10 and three,
escaped with minor injuries.
